Full-file subtitle generation
On iOS 26, a system recognition model transcribes on-device when the device and language are supported; language resources may need to be downloaded first. Earlier versions use a Whisper model downloaded to the device. Prepare the required model, then test a short local clip while disconnected.
Live subtitles
Live subtitles on iOS 26 use system on-device recognition and require a supported device, language and prepared language resources. On earlier systems, Apple's online recognition services may be used. Offline availability therefore cannot be promised for every OS and language.
Subtitle translation
Translation requires a language pair supported by the system. First use may need a language-pack download. Once packs are ready, verify offline behavior on your device. The app reports unsupported language pairs.
NAS access, purchases and downloads
Reading SMB videos and writing subtitles require connectivity to the NAS. In-app purchases, purchase restoration and initial model preparation may need a network connection. SRT files saved locally to Files can be read by tools that support the format.
Local processing and privacy
Local media decoding and audio extraction do not make every system service offline. Processing may create temporary audio or subtitle caches. Exported subtitles stay in your chosen destination. Read the privacy policy alongside feature-specific requirements and system permission prompts.
