Generate an SRT file on iPhone
- Open the subtitle generation tool from the home screen. Its label may be Fast Subtitle Generation or High Quality Subtitle Export, depending on your OS.
- Select a video or audio file from Files, Photos or an SMB share.
- Prepare the recognition model when prompted, start recognition and wait for the subtitles.
- Choose original text, translated text or both. For a translation, choose a target language and complete translation.
- Save or share the SRT using Files. SMB sources also offer the video folder as a destination.
What gets exported?
The result is a timed .srt subtitle file. Choosing both original and translated text creates two separate files, such as lesson.srt and lesson.zh-Hans.srt. The language suffix depends on the target language.
An SRT is a separate subtitle file. Permanently embedding text into the video picture requires a video tool with subtitle rendering support.
Why does first use prepare a model?
iOS 26 uses a system recognition model and may need to install language resources first. Complete-file subtitle generation on earlier OS versions uses a Whisper model downloaded to your device. Keep the app in the foreground during preparation and leave enough storage space.
What are the free generation limits?
The current version includes 3 successful free subtitle generations, with a maximum of 30 minutes per file. Failed generation does not count as a success. Pro removes these product allowance limits; device performance, free storage and valid media files still determine what can be processed.
Check before saving
Review names, technical terms, timing and long sentences before publishing. Recognition and translation can contain errors. Processing support depends on the media container, audio track and recognition path; try a short clip first.
